The Hound
By Robert Francis
Life the hound
Equivocal
Comes at a bound
Either to rend me
Or to befriend me.
I cannot tell
The hound’s intent
Till he has sprung
At my bare hand
With teeth or tongue.
Meanwhile I stand
And wait the event.
猎狗
罗伯特·弗朗西斯
生活猎狗
模棱两可
一跃而起
猎狗撕咬
还是友好。
我不知道
猎狗意图
直到跳起
赤手空拳
牙齿舌头。
站在原地
等候结局。
This poem uses metaphor to indicate the characteristics of life. Life is like a hound (hunting dog) which is either friendly or cruel. We do not konw the result until we experience it. What should we do to cope with it? Maybe we can just do what we should do everyday, and receive the events life brings us, no matter it is gift or misfortune, because both of them are experiences in the traveling of span of life.
